Audiobook related tool space has been sparse, AudioBo provides a much needed breath of life. Default settings of not re-encoding if not needed, chapter editor and metadata fetching makes this a very useful tool. Can’t recommend enough. The developer is also extremely responsive and open to feature requests. You can tell this application is developed by someone who actively uses it as well, which makes for a far better user experience.
I’ve bought several audiobook utilities in the past and AudioBo is the only one I’ve kept. It’s not a subscription model, good at its core function and provides quality of life features like update metadata only. Allow it remember the last folder you saved to when working with a series and I’d be over the moon. I’ve got an Audible addiction and this app is a must have for my OCD attention to detail on metadata across a series.
AudioBo is a god-send. Until recently I had been using Audiobook Builder 2, which hasn’t been updated in two years, and I was beginning to lose hope that I’d find a successor app. But it’s finally here! And it comes with a few useful features that actually make it much more convenient to use. Like no artificial limits to the length of your audiobooks. Metadata fetching also works without issue. Well worth the price, this app works wonderfully.
I've been using AudioBo to convert a stack of old CD rip MP3 audiobooks into properly structured M4B files with chapters, and it's been genuinely excellent. The interface is clean and intuitive: drag files in, and it handles metadata, chapter structure, and encoding without any fuss. In terms of my customer experience, AudioBo has a built-in parallel encoder test in the settings. On my MacBook Pro M4 Pro (24GB unified memory), it suggested 7 parallel encoders, but testing showed I could reliably push that to 10. I passed the results along to the developer, not expecting a response; instead, the next day I got a genuine, engaged reply, and he's already looking at updating the recommendation. If you've got a pile of old MP3 audiobooks sitting around, this is the app to sort them out properly.
This app is absolutely fantastic, beautiful, and so easy to use. It has completely transformed my messy audiobook collection into a perfectly organized library. Creating M4B files is now a breeze, and I love all the smart features it offers. On top of that, the developer's support is incredible. I had a quick technical question regarding some of my older, weirdly formatted files, and Vlad replied and helped me out within hours. It’s rare to see such dedication. If I could give it 10 stars, I would! Highly recommended.

Now this is a proper audiobook creation tool. It reliably sorts audiobook files (but you can override that); it finds metadata for imported books (which you can control); and it turns out well-designed single or split audiobooks to your specific specifications. Add to all of that the quick response times of the dev and you have a winning solution. Save yourself time. Buy this now.
Been using a competitor's software for years and I thought it was the best available until I found this software! VERY easy to use and the developer is responsive to suggestions and feature requests. Worth every penny!
Kudos to the developer - he crushed it. The app has a simple interface, intuitive UX, and powerful features like matching source files to books, automatically structuring the book properly, updating the cover, and so much more. I used Audiobook Builder 2 for years, and this is easily 10x better.

Does exactly what I wanted. Combined mp3’s into a single m4b with chapters. Has fetch metadata feature, can update chapter names all at once, this is perfect. You can tweak the exported file too.
I use this app to convert movies into audio books. It is perfect for this. The developer is receptive to new ideas and was able to incorporate things into the app to make it almost seamless. The introduction of video file to audio file conversion and TV/movie metadata lookup are fantastic. I look forward to it’s continued development and improvement :)
I was prepared to convert my library to m4b manually with ffmpeg but thankfully AudioBo is here to save the day. This thing is crazy quick on my MacBook. The matching to metadata and letting me edit the chapter list is also very handy, easy, and fast.

Don’t have much to add on the other reviews here. This app just does what it says better than I had even hoped. Finally got to say goodbye to the wacky stack of scripts and scrapers I was using before to manage my audiobooks. I truly threw some really messed up folders at it and it fixed them up perfectly, with new chapter markers, metadate and cover art. Well done!
Before discovering this app, I tried numerous tools for audiobook creation and management. Some could convert multiple MP3 files into a chaptered M4B, but required tedious manual tagging. Others offered database matching, but the process was unnecessarily complicated and didn’t produce properly chaptered M4B files. Then I found AudioBo. It does everything I was looking for. Metadata matching works almost automatically and even uses duration for more accurate results. It can also pull in chapter data and remap it when needed. On top of that, the app features a clean, beautiful interface, and the developers don’t force a subscription model—instead, it’s a reasonably priced one-time purchase. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Thank you!

I’m pretty much the same as other reviewers, I was a previous Audio Book Builder user, moving over to AudioBo. It’s a nice, modern app, does everything I want, does it well, and is constantly supported. Well worth the money.
I found this app by accident. I actually wanted to convert a 22-hour audiobook with Audiobook Builder and was looking for a way to join the three parts at the end. Then this app was suggested to me. One look at the developer's website and I knew: this is the app I'd been looking for on the Mac forever. A 22-hour audiobook in under 3 minutes on a MacBook Air is respectable. Handling, looks, results… worth every cent!!

Ein Blick auf die Webseite des Herstellers und ich wußte, das ist die App, die ich für Mac ewig gesucht habe. 22 Stunden Hörbuch in unter 3 Minuten auf einem MacBook Air finde ich respektabel. Bedienung, Optik, Ergebnis…jeden Cent wert!!

Great app that works well and has a nice UI. I use it for converting audiobook CDs (bunch of MP3 files) into an m4b audiobook file with chapters etc. Has a great metadata searcher which can add chapter bookmarks to your audiobook which is especially useful when converting from a single large MP3. I haven’t experienced any bugs or issues.
I'd been looking for a long time for an app that met my expectations in both performance and design, and AudioBo is exactly what I needed. It's intuitive, very easy to use and does exactly what it promises — no unnecessary features, and a modern, carefully crafted look. Everything runs incredibly fast. My biggest problem was audiobooks from independent authors, which often arrive as one giant MP3 with no chapter breaks. AudioBo's solution is brilliant! Importing chapters from a simple .txt file is a genuine killer feature — I didn't even know the option existed, and I don't think the developer highlights it enough, because it's what makes the difference. This is the first review I've ever posted on the App Store, but I wanted to write it because honest reviews really help independent developers like Vlad. You can tell there's a real person with passion behind this program who cares about every detail. I wish him every success! I tried the demo and quickly decided to buy the full version; the price is very fair, and it's a relief that there are no heavy subscriptions. Highly recommended!

Solid, easy-to-use audiobook creator app, featuring easy metadata creation and all you need to put various files together into an audiobook (I still have some audiobooks on CD, and with this I can make a nice structured version of those to listen to in Bound on my phone). From having exchanged a few e-mails with Vlad, the guy behind the app, his plans for future development of this app also sound very promising!

I bought the app today and tested it after using AudioBookBinder for years. It is truly fantastic—you can enter much more information than with the competition, and when I had questions, the developer replied within minutes. Top-notch support, top-tier app; the developer is also very open to ideas for future features. Addendum: Since the update to version 1.2.3, two essential features have been added that outperform all other audiobook tools currently available on macOS. First, you can now add metadata to existing audiobooks without re-encoding – and it’s done within a beautiful layout that truly does justice to Apple's design standards. Second, you now have access to metadata from four well-known online databases, including Audible and MusicBrainz, which can be easily imported when creating or updating your audiobooks.

I’ve been building a personal audiobook collection for years, and the lack of a decent MP3-to-M4B converter for Mac was always my biggest headache. Most tools I tried were either command-line nightmares or ancient apps with interfaces straight out of 2005. AudioBo is neither. What makes it stand out is how it handles all the technical stuff — codecs, bitrates, channel settings — automatically. You just pick a quality preset and hit convert. The app is smart enough to not let you make bad choices, which is something no other converter bothered to get right. Chapter management is genuinely excellent. You can easily merge, rename, and reorder tracks right inside the app before exporting. The metadata editor is just as solid — series, book number, author, cover art — everything that makes your library look clean and sort correctly in Apple Books. Best feature nobody talks about: if you only need to update the cover art or title, it saves the changes without re-encoding the entire audio file. That alone saves a ton of time and preserves quality. One-time purchase at $9.99. No subscription, no nonsense. Absolutely worth it.
The operation is easy to understand and lightweight. It is rich in functions! Also, the appearance blends in well with the Mac. The developer is very responsive to my inquiries, so I can use it with confidence! Now if only there was an audiobook player that could utilize the tags set with this. P.S. Audio Bo supports standard metadata, but for example, you cannot view the edited "description" or "summary" in Apple's Book app. These are not essential for "listening", but they do not satisfy the desire for collection. I've tried several audiobook players, but so far I've only found an app called "enve" that can read these metadata. This is a test flight release, so it is unclear what will happen in the future.
Once in a while I spend a bit of time sorting out my old audiobooks in MP3 format and AudioCDs and converting them into proper audiobook files. I’ve normally used Audiobook Builder (ABB) but that hasn’t been updated in a while and even though it still works, it looks very dated. AudioBo got a lot of inspiration from ABB but has a modern look and feel and some nice comfort features. E.g. it makes sane suggestions for output quality. It also uses standard tools like ffmpeg and mp4v2 under the hood to guarantee the highest compatibility of its output files. I’ve already created a few books with it and can’t complain at all. If you want to create audiobook files, this is the app for it.

I was a little worried about giving this app a go since there weren’t that many reviews, but I’m so glad I took a chance on it! It’s a workhorse! It is intuitively built and thus very easy to use, and can handle very large audiobooks and small audiobooks alike. It’s surprisingly speedy and the options for audio quality are excellent. This is the audiobook creator to use, and well worth the money.
If you’ve ever tried to turn a pile of audio files into a proper audiobook, you know may knw the struggle: ancient apps with interfaces from the Windows 98 era, CLI tools that require a PhD in debugging, or “simple” converters that cap your book at arbitrary lengths (looking at you, Audiobook Builder 2. because no one listens to books longer than 13 hours, right? 🤷♂️). Then there is AudioBo… This app does one thing and does it brilliantly: it turns your audio files into clean, chaptered, beautiful M4B audiobooks, tags incl. And it does so with a level of polish and thoughtfulness that feels like a miracle in this niche. Good stuff: - A UI that doesn’t hurt your eyes: Shockingly, this app is beautiful. Clean, modern, intuitive. Why is this so rare in audiobook tools? I don’t get it, but I’m grateful. -Smart & powerful under the hood: Drag and drop your files, and it already understands titles, authors, chapters, and artwork. You can go deep with custom encoding options (AAC-LC, HE-AAC, bitrate control) or just use a preset. - No arbitrary limits: Got a 40-hour epic story? No problemo! No forced splitting, no strange workarounds (again Audiobook Builder why?!). - It just works: This is the “get in and get out” tool I’ve wanted for years. No fuss, no endless configuration, just a straight path from messy files to a polished audiobook. What’s missing: Frankly, not much. But if I’m nitpicking: - The app name is missing “OK.” Should’ve been AudioBoOK. Come on, that was right there! Just kidding! 😄 - It’s also missing telemetry, tracking frameworks, and creepy analytics. In today’s world, that’s not a bug. it’s a feature. Thank you. Small improvements (Whispers, not demands): - Option for even higher bitrates (though the current range is more than sufficient). - An export option to chapterized MP3 files for us weirdos with players that still prefer MP3s. (This isn’t a promised feature, just a nice-to-have. Tools like Fission can do it, but in my experience, it's more cumbersome than it's worth. AudioBo doesn't claim to, but a clean implementation here would be the holy grail for my legacy library.) And yes, I’m one of the weirdos! 🙈 - Maybe even custom presets that can then be saved (e.g. “My custom preset 007”) The competition? What Competition? - Audiobook Builder 2: Caps at 13 hours. Why? Do audiophiles not read War and Peace? - Various CLI tools: Powerful, but if I wanted to spend my weekend in a terminal, I’d be compiling Linux kernels. - Other abandoned apps: So old they probably still have Carbon code. Final take: Don’t let the simple interface fool you. AudioBo is fully featured, thoughtfully designed, and clearly built by someone who actually uses audiobooks. It’s not “vibe coded”, it’s engineered. From metadata editing to chapter control to flawless Apple Books/Music integration, this app respects your time and your library. If you need to convert, merge, or organize audiobooks on a Mac, this is the tool. It’s a rare delight: software that does exactly what it says, does it well, and doesn’t make you suffer along the way. Rating: ★★★★★ (Would be ★★★★★½ if “OK” was in the name.) But you missed out on ½ ★ 😏
