Fixes

  • Average speed in CPM mode is now the real average — If you measure your speed in characters per minute, the Average tile used to show your words-per-minute average multiplied by five — close, but not quite your number. Now it's the true average of your CPM results. Reported by James
  • Deleted sessions disappear immediately — Deleting a session from its details screen sometimes left the row in the history list until you switched windows. It goes away right away now. Reported by Marco

  • Your speed unit, everywhere — Stability, Skill Score, the Best legend and the Consistency footer used to say “WPM” even when you'd switched to CPM. They now follow your unit.
  • Small refinements throughout — A few little fixes here and there. Nothing changes in how you type — it just runs a little smoother.

  • Two themes for color-blind vision — Clarity Dark is built for red-green color blindness; Ink Mono drops color altogether and works in pure black and white. Both are free. Alongside them, a setting that makes every hint in the app readable without color at all: mistakes are marked by shape, and statistics stop using hue to tell good from bad.
  • Type Chinese with Pinyin — Mochi Type now teaches Chinese. The full sixteen-lesson course, with the characters shown under the pinyin as you type it — so you always see the word you are producing. Three Chinese word sets come with it: confusable sounds, sayings from the classics, and lines from the great novels. Five books to read through, from a beginner's primer to Tang poetry.
  • Double Pinyin, if that is how you type — Two schemes are built in — Xiaohe and Ziranma — spelling every syllable in exactly two keys. Turn one on in Settings and the key map appears right on the on-screen keyboard. The course itself stays in full pinyin: that is where the fingers are set.
  • Mochi Type now speaks Chinese — The whole interface — menus, settings, statistics, results — is now translated into Simplified Chinese.

Improvements

  • Practice in minutes, not seconds — Practice sessions now run for 1, 2, 3 or 5 minutes. The old durations were counted in seconds, which read oddly next to a course measured in lessons.
  • Settings, reorganized — Six panes became four, and the theme picker is now a grid of previews instead of a list fourteen rows long — you can see what a theme looks like before choosing it.
  • Smoother with VoiceOver — The typing area, the results screen and the statistics all read in a sensible order now, and the keyboard announces the next key without interrupting itself.

  • Demo books in four languages — The Custom Texts section now comes with demo books to type your way through: a verb workbook, a travel phrasebook, a Python syntax workbook and classic reading — five each in English, German, Russian and Ukrainian. Open one like any custom text and Mochi remembers where you stopped.
  • Start at a random paragraph — Custom texts have a new start option, so every session begins somewhere else and a long text never runs the same way twice.
  • Search your library — Find any text from the sidebar — demo books and your own imports alike.

  • Tidier right-click menu — The typing area's context menu is grouped into clear sections, and editing a custom text is one click — or ⌘T — away.

The app is now a free download with a one-time In-App Purchase that opens the full version — and as an existing buyer you already own it: everything stays unlocked automatically, forever, at no extra cost. If the app ever asks you to buy the unlock (it shouldn't), just press Restore Purchase and everything comes right back.
  • Reduce Transparency — A new option in Settings › General. Turn it on for solid window backgrounds instead of the frosted blur — cleaner, and easier on the eyes.

  • Apostrophes that match your keyboard — Words with apostrophes in Ukrainian, French, Italian and English now accept whichever apostrophe key your layout has — the native one, a straight ', or a curly '. No more errors for your own keyboard's apostrophe, and the hint points right to it.
